NMACI-1On the editorial pages of newspapers in Hobbs, Las Cruces and Clovis, to name a few, ACI President and CEO Jason Espinoza called on New Mexicans this week to fight for and celebrate the state’s oil and gas industry. In the column, seen here at NMPolitics.net, Jason noted the Aug. 31 “Celebrate Oil and Gas in New Mexico” event in Roswell. Residents of southeastern New Mexico will gather to show their support for the industry on the eve of the Sept. 1 lease sale conducted by the Bureau of Land Management, also taking place in Roswell. Jason is scheduled to be among the event’s featured speakers.

The U.S. Chamber’s Institute for 21st Century Energy recently released a report as part of its Energy Accountability Series, entitled “What If Energy Production Was Banned on Federal Lands and Waters?” The report states that if the “Keep It in the Ground” agenda prevails, New Mexico would lose 24,300 jobs (10,000 direct, 14,300 indirect and induced) and $496 million in annual royalty collections (2015), representing 8 percent of the state’s total General Fund revenues. Protesters associated with the Keep It in the Ground movement have appeared at past BLM lease sales in Santa Fe.
